Oxygène, the first ecologically-responsible mixer truck, by Vicat
The Group is revolutionizing transport with its ‘Oxygène’ hybrid concrete mixer truck.
After three years of research and reflection with our four partners, we developed ‘Oxygène’, a revolutionary concrete mixer truck using two innovative technologies. A world first, the heavy truck is extremely ‘light’ in terms of noise and CO2 emissions.
Its Iveco engine running on renewable natural gas (biomethane) and its Cifa Energya electric mixer drum powered by rechargeable lithium batteries mean it emits 96% less CO2 than conventional mixer trucks. It is also particularly quiet: the engine makes only half the noise of a conventional powersource and the mixer drum is totally silent. As a result it can be used for deliveries at night as well as during the day.
Pursuing our commitment to energy transition, the logistics department of our concrete business was put in charge of designing the vehicle to achieve the best possible environmental and acoustic performance. To help take up the challenge we brought in three partners: trucking firm Jacky Perrenot, manufacturer of industrial vehicles Iveco, and the Italian manufacturer of the world’s only hybrid mixer drum, Cifa.
While there is no alternative to transporting concrete by truck—for it must be delivered within two hours of batching—, with ‘Oxygène’ we can propose an alternative that substantially reduces our environmental impact. It is a sign of our commitment to finding answers to the issues of trucking in urban areas.
