Vicat joins the New Energies Coalition to accelerate the decarbonization of transport and industry
Vicat Group announces its membership of the New Energies Coalition, a consortium of industrial players committed to developing low-carbon solutions for transport and logistics.
Vicat Group announces its membership of the New Energies Coalition, a consortium of industrial players committed to developing low-carbon solutions for transport and logistics. This association is in line with the Group's decarbonization strategy, for achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.
Vicat: driving the decarbonization of the sector
For many years, the Group has been undergoing an in-depth transformation of its industrial processes and solutions to sustainably reduce its carbon footprint, based on innovation, the circular economy and energy optimisation.
By joining the New Energies Coalition, Vicat becomes part of a collective initiative dedicated to developing CO₂ as a resource, particularly for the production of alternative energies for maritime and air transport.
The VAIA project, driven by Vicat at its Montalieu site, illustrates this ambition. It will capture, transport and store up to 1.2 million tonnes of CO₂ per year. The sheer scale of this project will help initiate a movement to decarbonize the Rhône Valley. It will also allow the possibility of recycling the captured CO2 to develop new industries.
"Joining the New Energies Coalition means strengthening our commitment to the concrete and collective decarbonization of our activities. By combining our expertise, we can make CO₂ a resource for alternative energies and sustainable mobility, for the benefit of sectors, regions, and future generations." Guy Sidos, Chairman and CEO of Vicat Group
Building sustainable industrial and energy synergies
The aim of Vicat's membership of the New Energies Coalition is to create synergies to:
- Recover industrial CO₂ (CCU) for the production of e-fuels;
- Develop low-carbon materials and solutions for port and transport infrastructure;
- Develop low-carbon river transport, with transport of clinker by electric barge on the Rhône from the Montalieu cement plant to the Vicat cement grinding site in Fos-sur-Mer;
- Collaborate on European programmes and contribute to projects encouraging logistics resilience (Rhône-Mediterranean corridor, intermodality, restoration of underwater biodiversity, etc.).
