Meret Oppenheim High-Rise: taking to the air with sand-lime bricks

Creabeton Matériaux

January 2017

Basel (Switzerland) is once more growing skywards. For interior fitout of the Meret Oppenheim Hochhaus igh-rise apartment building, Creabeton Matériaux provided sand-lime bricks.

The Meret Oppenheim Hochhaus high-rise apartment building, scheduled for handover in the spring of 2019, is 81 meters tall. Construction of the 25 levels—19 of which are for housing, the podium for retail premises and offices—represented a substantial challenge.

Construction of the Meret Oppenheim Hochhaus high-rise apartment building began in the fall of 2015 with site clearance and excavation. It was in 2017 that our Swiss subsdiary, precast-concrete-product manufacturer Creabeton Matériaux, became involved in the project. In addition to concrete manholes, we supplied more than 100,000 sand-lime bricks; that's more than 650 pallet-loads.

The sand-lime bricks were used for the interior fitout of the office floors. Their special advantage is their ability to regulate temperature and humidity. By virtue of their high density they also very effectively damp out noise, even with thin partition walls. This helps create a calm atmosphere that contributes to the well-being of occupants.
