Czech Republic: street art using natural quick-setting cement
When the city of Mladá Boleslav wanted to liven up Staroměstské náměstí—its Old Town Square—, it appointed artist Veronika Psotková who opted to use natural quick-setting cement for her work because of its warm color and stone-like texture.
The work comprising a stainless-steel watercourse, sculptures of three groups of children, and water features—jets and cascades—lends new life to the square. Blocks of concrete artificial stone provide seating where passers-by can sit and enjoy a restful moment. Five locks invite visitors to adjust the flow of water. The Czech importer of Vicat products, RABAT, provided technical support for the project which was rewarded with the ‘2011 Czech Republic Construction Award’.
