Vigier Rail and Creabeton Matériaux, the winning ticket at Müntschemier station
Müntschemier, in the Bernese Seeland region, was the center of frequent and noisy comings and goings in the last two years. Why? Because rail infrastructure manager BLS Netz AG totally revamped the station in this peaceful village.
The project involved building two 220-m-long platforms and an underground pedestrian passageway and stairs connecting them. In addition, the old station building and a goods shed were demolished, a new plant building was built for the electronic switchgear, the tracks and overhead lines were renovated, the Park & Ride and Bike & Ride facilities were extended, and the station plaza was revamped.
Vigier Rail, a subsidiary of the Vicat group in Switzerland, was directly concerned by the project since its offices, production buildings, and open-air storage yards are immediately adjacent to both sides of the railroad. On the request of BLS Netz AG, Vigier Rail sold part of its land. The company took advantage of the opportunity to modernize and extend its entire installation.
As the only manufacturer of concrete rail ties in Switzerland, Vigier Rail supplied BLS Netz AG with turnout blocks and large numbers of L-wall units for construction of the new quay with access for persons with reduced mobility. And a second Vigier company, Creabeton Matériaux, which is also close to the project site, got on board. The new external and other civil works at Müntschemier station required a variety of Creabeton Matériaux products, including sewage and other drainage systems and CARENA® interlocking and detectable warning pavers.
