France: New Louis Vicat exhibition at the ‘From Stone to Cement’ museum
On May 14, after 6 months of work, the Musée de la Pierre au Ciment in Montalieu-Vercieu opened to the public again.
The entirely renovated Louis Vicat exhibition offers visitors three different angles of approach: ‘History’ presents the early days and the invention of cement by Louis Vicat; ‘Technical’, gives a clear presentation of the manufacture of cement and other Vicat products and materials, their potential and their applications; and ‘Group life’ presents the broad diversity of professions involved in the cement industry through some selected ‘portraits’. The exhibition demonstrates Vicat’s high-profile presence in the field, its involvement and its concern for the environment and the landscape: some impressive ‘revelations’ which make this section the highlight of the Museum. High-definition films, new games and teaching tools, and the original displays featuring shelves loaded with test tubes and colored concrete briquets all make the museum a pleasurable visit for young or old, student or worker, local resident or tourist.
